Chris Brady is an honest and fearless singer/songwriter, whose hauntingvoice and stealthy pop savvy continue to resonate and surprise long afterone’s first listen.
Brady’s style embraces a knowing nod in the direction of past musicalluminaries (The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and without inferringhas-been status, Neil Young) but both his feet are firmly stamped in thepresent.
Melding folk, funk, rock and country, Brady’s accomplished acoustic guitarand ambient voice drip with attitude, curiosity and confidence in equalmeasure.
The former Jilted frontman cut his songwriting teeth in the localpunk-rock scene, then expanded his repertoire to include sessionperformances with some of Brisbane’s best-loved acts, including BernardFanning, Andrew Morris, Halfday, The Boat People and James Grehan. Thesecameos have seen Brady tour nationally countless times, most recently asbass player / backing singer with roots-rock sensation Andrew Morris andthe Dry Bones.
In the midst of these collaborations, Brady has continued to write andperform his own original material, culminating in the recording of two CDsof beautifully constructed, emotive, soul-pop music.
Brady’s first CD, an independent EP called Mexican Eyes is available nowthrough Jarsonic Records. With a light, beachy feel that belies itsunderlying yearning and melancholy, the first single Happy enjoyed radioairplay on TripleJ’s Roots’n’All show, as well as on Brisbane’s 4ZzZ.
The title track of Mexican Eyes has also become a live favourite, withaddictive Spanish-tinged staccato strums and surging vocals providingplenty of enticement for any drunkards needing something to shake theirarse to.
Brady’s debut long player, Satellites, featuring some songs from MexicanEyes as well as a wealth of newer material, is slated for release inFebruary 2007.
As a session performer, Brady has a wealth of experience rare in one soyoung, having played many of Australia’s premier rooms as well as majorfestivals.
As a soloist, he has shared the stage with the likes of Tyrone Noonan,Palladium, Shifter, Paul Greene, Loren, Sean & Bronwyn of The Spoils,Halfday and Christian Pyle (Acre). Chris regularly plays at Brisbane indiemusic institutions Ric’s and The Troubadour, and has also showcased hisoriginal material at various clubs in Melbourne including The Espy, BarOpen and The Wesley Anne.
